We drove to Roanoke, Virginia last weekend for my sister-in-law’s birthday and a weekend with the family. While there, we got to visit the Museum of O. Winston Link. Link was trained as an engineer, from what I recall, but worked in photography. His personal project was photographing the steam engine trains at the end of their era, 1955-1960. This photograph is of Link’s favorite engine, the 1218, an A Class. It’s now at the Virginia transportation museum.

waiting: new work from the departure series.

I was going to work on my website–freshen it up a bit and replace some images, update exhibitions, yada yada yada… but I think I’ll make more images with my 10,000+ photos in Lightroom and my new big big big 24″ monitor. It’s 10pm, but I’m off from the day job all week, so maybe some iced coffee is in order… I love vacations in the studio! :)

I took 94 photos of these birds on and around this telephone or power line yesterday. Yay! I’ve got a week OFF from the day job and since it’s about 100 degrees today, I think I’ll stay inside and have fun with my new monitor and these 94 shots. :)

I’ve been away from blogging for a couple of months now. There have been some changes in my life– nothing bad, just different… I’ll be posting again soon. In the photo is evidence of my modus operandi. I can’t read in the car; it makes me sick. So I take my camera and shoot while Fred drives.

Yesterday I took a little bit of a long lunch from the day job and went to the arboretum. It was a lovely day–about 80° and breezy, the sky blue with fluffy clouds…. I suppose noon isn’t the best time for photography– the light and shadows are a bit harsh… but it was really more about enjoying the day than getting the best shots. This lovely climbing rose is a Lady Banks’ Rose.

Kiva (www.kiva.org) is a non-profit that allows you to lend as little as $25 to a specific low-income entrepreneur in the developing world. I just loaned a small amount of money to baker in Lebanon to update his oven. (I was born in Beirut; my dad worked for Tapline and Aramco.) I think this is an excellent way for individuals to make a positive difference and help folks find their way out of poverty. Check out the site. :)

New works in my etsy shop. The Flora series is a bit of a departure for me. My art often works with themes of order and arrangement. In the Flora series, I’ve tried to capture and appreciate the beauty of the moment. I hope you enjoy these photographs as much as I do.
