We drove to Roanoke, Virginia last weekend for my sister-in-law’s birthday and a weekend with the family. While there, we got to visit the Museum of O. Winston Link. Link was trained as an engineer, from what I recall, but worked in photography. His personal project was photographing the steam engine trains at the end of their era, 1955-1960. This photograph is of Link’s favorite engine, the 1218, an A Class. It’s now at the Virginia transportation museum.
I suppose noon isn’t the best time for photography– the light and shadows are a bit harsh… but it was really more about enjoying the day than getting the best shots. This lovely climbing rose is a Lady Banks’ Rose.

I just loaned a small amount of money to baker in Lebanon to update his oven. (I was born in Beirut; my dad worked for Tapline and Aramco.) I think this is an excellent way for individuals to make a positive difference and help folks find their way out of poverty. Check out the site. :)
