digital collage printed on silk, quilted, 18″ x 36″, ©2006
This is one of my new works in my solo show at the Durham Arts Council. The digital collage started with a photograph of hand-dyed shibori cotton. I added the 1’s and 0’s and circles. The photo of the cardinal was taken at a local science museum (the bird is stuffed). Once the digital collage is complete, it’s printed onto silk (with my Epson 2200 and Lyson Cave Paint inks), fused to cotton, backed with batting and back layer, and stitched by machine (and sometimes, hand).

i am intrigued with this piece. i have an epson cx4800, i am about to experiment with printing some excerpts from my textile art onto good paper,then mat and sell. wondering about the inks you used. it is the cost of the ink that makes me shake, i need to do some test runs..don;t want to waste ink…any suggestions? WHY did you iron the image on? vs. just printing directly onto the fabric?

i love your work. that binary code is so amazingly shibori-like in the collage. i cannot imagine how you do this but the combination of elements is superb.
